Holiday Party and Still-life Workshop
From Elisif:
We'll have a holiday party (everybody bring goodies) and we'll also do some still life shooting! Everybody bring your cameras and tripods, and we'll set up some things to photograph. Here's what I'm thinking:
- 7-7:30: set up things to photograph and lights
- 7:30-7:45-ish: business part of the meeting
- 7:45-8:30-ish: photograph things and eat cookies
- 8:30-8:40: give your CF or SD cards to Marshall to put the photos on his computer for sharing, if you wish
- 8:40-9-ish: Marshall will flip through the photos on the projector and we'll see the (unedited) results and discuss
- 9pm: eat more cookies
Ideas about what we should photograph:
- We need two people to bring flowers
- Anybody else bring things that are easy to transport and interesting to photograph (vases, jars, trinkets, whatnot)
- Bring musical instruments as a kind of "theme" for the evening--I will bring a french horn and a flute--if others can bring instruments, that would be cool
- Bring any light modifiers you'd like
Accoutrements
- Bring drop cloths, backdrops, etc. (I will bring several black cloths/blankets and a few other things)
- Bring lights--with hot lights or continuous lights, rather than strobes, we wouldn't have to take turns. If we have 3-5 setups where multiple people can shoot at once, we can all do more shooting. If someone does want to bring flashes and just use them yourself (or share if you want to), that is fine. But mostly I think we should use hot lights. I can bring two cheap-o clip-on lights that provide nice warm, directional light. We can use ordinary lamps, hardware store lights, and even flashlights. Bring what you have and we'll make use of them!
- If you don't have any of these things, just bring your camera (and tripod highly recommended).
We can use this as an opportunity to work on Sidelighting for the competition coming up next!
